Helpful studio tips
PLEASE BE ON TIME
Be mindful of the experience of others by arriving 10 minutes before your session and leaving only when the session has finished. Latecomers will not be allowed in the studio once the class has started.
SPEAK SOFTLY
Our studio is built as an escape from the noisy, hectic and busy pace of life. We encourage conversations outside the sessions, but please keep them gentle. Our teachers will happily answer all your questions before or after the session.
KEEP YOUR EYES UP
To benefit wholly from the experience, we ask that you minimise phone usage, by leaving them switched off or on silent once you enter the studio. Please do not bring your mobile inside the yoga practice room.
LEAVE YOUR BAGGAGE
We encourage coming to your session with no expectations and no items to weigh you down. Please leave your shoes in the designated area and belongings in the changing rooms. You can safely lock any of your personal items in our lockers (own padlock required).
What to expect
Here are the questions we get asked most often. If yours isn’t answered below, please don’t hesitate to pop in, or drop us an email at [email protected]
What if I’m new to yoga?
Our classes are open to everyone, from first-time students to advanced practitioners. Just let your teacher know you’re new when you arrive.
What if I’m not flexible?
You might not be right now, but your flexibility will improve rapidly. There’s no rush or pressure; everyone can do the postures to their own ability.
What if I’m not fit enough?
The majority of classes are designed for all levels of fitness, but if you have any medical conditions or injuries, please consult your doctor first and tell your teacher about them before class.
What if I’m not 18? Can I still practice?
If you’re planning on coming to the studio on your own, you will need to be over 18. But if your parents are joining the class with you, then you can come to class if you’re over 15 years old.
What if I’m too old?
Never too old! Everyone can do the postures to their own ability. Whether you’re in your twenties or in your seventies, your body gets fantastic medical benefits.
What if I’m pregnant?
Congrats! We don’t allow anyone to practice at Sadhana during thefirst trimester. After that, if you were practicing regularly before you became pregnant, you can do a modified version of your class as long as you make sure to:
- get an ok from your doctor or midwife
- consult our Pregnancy guidelines (reception can email them to you)
- speak to the teacher before class so they know why you’re doing the modifications and can look after you.
What if I have a knee injury, can yoga help me?
Whether your knees are arthritic or injured, yoga can help. Drop us an email and we can advise you on the best way to practice with a knee injury.
I’m new to the studio, what do I need to know?
All new students start on our introductory offer of 14 days for £30. You receive 14 full days of unlimited classes!
Do I have to book?
Yes please. You can book via our website www.sadhana-wellbeing.com or even simpler, download our Sadhana Yoga and Wellbeing app
When should I arrive for my class?
Try to arrive at least 10 minutes before class to give yourself time to get changed, and set yourself up for class. Feel free to come even earlier, our doors open 30 minutes before class start. You will not be allowed into a class once it has started.
What should I wear?
Avoid loose fitting clothes that might get in your way. Women mostly wear sports tops and shorts or leggings. Men wear shorts (t-shirts are optional).
For Meditation and Yin you might like to bring socks and a jumper to get cosy.
What do I need for class?
We have mats and blocks available for you to use, as well as both mat towels and shower towels available to hire but please feel free to bring your own.
For Meditation and Yin you might like to bring your own bolster or blanket.
We sell water and coconut water and have filtered water fountains for you to fill up your water bottles.
What to expect
Try not to have any expectations, take it easy on your first class and enjoy the experience!
Should I eat before class?
Not directly before class. Ideally, you should come to class on an empty stomach, but not hungry. It’s best not to eat anything heavy two hours before. This will ensure that you feel lifted and light and benefit fully from your practice.
Aim to drink at least two litres throughout the day, and drink plenty of water after class. Try also having a drink high in electrolytes (e.g. coconut water or water with electrolyte tablets/powder).
Honour your fellow yogis’ space
The yoga room is a space to leave the world behind. Please be quiet upon entering the room and remember to align your mat within the floor markers. When leaving the class take any belongings with you and if you borrowed our mat, please wipe it down with sanitiser and hang it on the racks to dry.
Mindfulness
Please be mindful of our therapists who may be giving treatments to their clients, near the chill out area.
Come back tomorrow
Come back as soon as you can in order to get the best experience from your yoga practise.
Do I need to stay in the room for the full class?
Absolutely. We expect our students to stay for the entire duration of the class. This is the best way to get used to the heat and humidity (if applicable) and it’s an important part of your yoga practice. If you feel you need to stop, we’d rather you stayed on your mat, breathed through your nose and tried to relax. That way, you’ll get the most out of your practice. When you feel better you can pick-up from the next posture.
How do I recover after class?
After class the most important thing is to stay hydrated. We recommend a drink high in electrolytes such as coconut water. Also try to get plenty of rest before your next class, and make sure you eat a healthy, well-balanced meal to refuel your body.
If you still have questions, you can ask any of us when you’re at the studio and we also have a dedicated Yoga Advisor.
